More on the hospital stay
I need to put another warning on this blog because I’m going to talk about barfing. So if me talking about worfing makes you want to ralph then skip this one. Ugh. I think just writing that sentence made my nausea rear back up.
All I really said about the night of my lovely hospital stay was how doped up I was, and how much throwing up I did. My night started with Curtis being told he couldn’t stay in the room with me because it was a shared room, so I just sent him home. There was nothing he could do for me anyway, and he would be a lot more comfortable in his own bed than sleeping on the waiting room couch.
The same time he left the night nurse came on shift. I don’t remember her name but she seemed really nice. She showed me how to unplug my IV stand and drag it to the bathroom. Thats right, drag, up a small lip and gentle slope to get to the toilet. Did I mention how weak and wobbly I was? Lets add in the IV stand had all sorts of monitors attached to it and was about 15 pounds. Not that I’m that wimpy but when your that sick trying to drag the stand plus monitors around sucked. My solution. Leaving the stand outside and peeing with the door open. Sorry lady in the other bed. I pretty much had lost all my pride or shame by that point.
Thats when I started throwing up. The nurse said it was the anesthesia and gave me some medication for nausea. So here is where it gets tricky. You get that feeling that your going to spew. So you have plenty of time to unplug your monstrous monitor, and leisurely tug into the bathroom right? Right. The first time I made to the bathroom. The second time I figured screw it, and puked all over the bed. Sorry nurse. It wasn’t until after the third time that she gave me a bucket. I guess it was because she gave me a ton of anti-nausea meds that she thought it would stop happening.
So needless to say it was not the best night ever. In fact I think I’ve spent nights on my bathroom floor that were more comfy. By the time 6am rolled I was trying like heck to get out of there. The doctor actually came around to release me at 7, but they told Curtis I would not be leaving until 11 so he was home leisurely eating breakfast when my frantic “where are you calls started”. By the time he got there, and I was released by the nursing staff, it was almost 10. All I wanted to do was go sleep in my own bed.
So now we have had almost a week to recover, and how am I doing? Freaking miserable. I’m still in so much pain, and I’m so tired of it. I cannot sleep through the night because the pain gets so bad. I get up super early in the morning and lay on the couch for a couple hours just to try to calm down after some crummy nights. I’m suppose to start back to work on Wednesday for my regular 4 day work week of 12 hour shifts. Not gonna happen. The pain in my back is so bad I cannot even wear a bra. I’ve called the doctor, and he said this was normal, but we will see how I feel in the next couple days.
